Owls: Sheffield Wednesday new signings speculation

SHEFFIELD Wednesday's two new signings got down to the first training session with their new teammates yesterday amid speculation that two more are on the way.

Striker Gary Madine and defender Mark Reynolds began their integration into the Wednesday way with both expressing their delight at joining the Owls and confident the club is definitely on an upward curve.

"This is a massive club with massive potential. It has a great history and should be higher up," said Madine.

"I think we can get up this time and I want to help do that."

The 20-year-old, who had a brief loan spell at Chesterfield last season, arrives having scored 13 goals for Carlisle this season which has been regarded as his "breakthrough" year.

As for defender Reynolds, it brings to a successful conclusion an interest for Owls boss Alan Irvine that goes back to his days in charge at Preston.

"I knew the gaffer was interested in me when he was at Preston," said the 23-year-old, who has been at Motherwell since he was 10.

"He spoke to me about his vision for Wednesday and I liked what I heard and I'm so looking forward to it.

"I got a taste on Saturday what it's going to be like and when they pulled it back in the second half the atmosphere was terrific," added Reynolds who signed on Saturday night and is essentially a left-sided central defender who can also play left-back.

It takes Irvine's signings to four with talks under way over two more signings soon, one likely to be a midfielder.
