OWLS pair Liam Palmer and Reda Johnson are set to be ruled out of the Hillsborough derby against Chesterfield a week on Saturday.
Both have been called up for internationals and will miss a League game for the second time in five weeks.
Palmer is wanted by Scotland Under 21s for European Championship qualifiers next Thursday in Luxembourg and the following Monday against Austria at St Mirren.
Johnson is in the Benin squad for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on the day after the Chesterfield game.
Both were absent for the Owls’ televised match at Charlton on September 5.
Wednesday have midfield resources that allow them to cope with the loss of Palmer, who was on the bench for the last two games, the wins against Yeovil and Exeter.
Johnson’s withdrawal will almost certainly mean a recall for Julian Bennett, who began the season as first-choice left back but like Palmer has been a sub for the last two games.
Centre half Johnson has been handed the role at left back and will have an extra incentive to shine at Hartlepool on Saturday - assuming Gary Megson picks an unchanged back four after last weekend’s clean sheet against Exeter.
The defender will want to leave a good impression on Megson in the hope that he can regain his place when he returns from international duty, before the Sheffield derby on October 16.
