Brighton meanwhile have moved to within one win of League One automatic promotion after beating the resurgent Owls.
Wednesday had won their previous two games, but Chris Wood put the hosts ahead from the spot after Danny Batth brought Glenn Murray down.
Elliott Bennett put the result beyond doubt with a fierce, crisp strike into the top corner.
The Seagulls’ Gordon Greer picked up a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident in the closing stages.
