Owls fans out to corner a wall of sound

SHEFFIELD Wednesday fans may be able to send out a wall of noise from all four sides of Hillsborough next season.

Management are re-designating the use of the West Stand and considering opening up an upgraded north-west corner.

The club say the segregation and separation of turnstiles can be enforced so that in some fixtures Owls fans can go in the upper tier, or lower tier or both.

Owls chief executive Nick Parker says that the intention is to achieve more flexible usage of the Leppings Lane stand.

He says allocating seating areas would depend on the the anticipated number of away fans.

"We are trying to bring the north west corner back into play; it's been off limits recently we are generally trying to make it more versatile in the west stand.

"According to the number of away supporters we anticipate, we would be able to mix that stand with away and home" said Parker.

"So if Plymouth Argyle, for example, don't send many supporters we can separate the upper and lower and use the corner."

The availability of extra seating would increase revenue when teams like Sheffield United and Newcastle United visit, too.

nWednesday's week-long trip to Malta (July 11-18) will incorporate games in two "triangular tournaments " - shortened games against two local sides on July 13 and 16. Owls players are also due to visit a Maltese children's hospital.

Manager Brian Laws will have his hands full - he will be asked to sink his palms in setting concrete at a ceremony on the island.

Former Owls midfielder Kenny Lunt has joined Hereford.
