'Offer us more money'

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are refusing to give up hope of signing Motherwell defender Mark Reynolds.

Chairman Milan Mandaric has revealed that the Owls are still working on a possible deal.

Manager Alan Irvine last week confirmed that talks had been held, after reports in Scotland claimed that Well were set to reject an offer.

This was followed by Motherwell boss and former Sheffield United player Stuart McCall admitting that Wednesday have made a bid for the 23-year-old.

Now Mandaric has told The Star that agreement has not been ruled out: "There's dialogue going on. We're working on that."

The Owls have already signed defenders Reda Johnson from Plymouth and Michael Morrison from Leicester, both 22.

Mandaric also said: "We are looking to strengthen the defence a bit more; we are trying to bring in young players to build a team not only for the short term but for the future."

He hopes to know more about Reynolds later this week.

The Owls' bid is believed to have been more than 75,000, but Motherwell appear to be holding out for more.

Reynolds played in Motherwell's 4-0 Cup win at Dundee on Sunday, and McCall said his attitude was "spot on" despite the uncertainty over his future.

McCall said he told Reynolds: 'Wednesday have made a bid. If you play well, it might be a Championship club with a bid'.

He added: "I wouldn't like to lose him, I know the board are not over-keen to lose him, but if the offer is upped and I can bring someone in, we will wait and see."

Reynolds, a centre-half who can also play left-back, falls out of contract this summer.
