Nolan plots Owls upset
LOAN star Eddie Nolan is bidding to help Sheffield Wednesday upset his Preston clubmates at Deepdale tonight.
The defender will play against the Lilywhites though he is on loan from them and he admits that it will be a "strange" occasion for him.
But he is relishing his role in helping Wednesday's Championship survival fight and believes that they can add another away reward to the good point they picked up at Swansea.
"It will be strange but I'm looking forward to it; it's a massive game for us and I think we can get something from it the way we have been playing in the last few games," he told The Star.
The 21-year-old, who is on loan for the rest of the season, was given a baptism of fire in the 5-0 defeat at Reading but made a promising debut and has played his part in the team's much-improved performances against Leicester, West Brom and Swansea.
"We've been playing well since Reading, which was a freak day," he said. "We've started to play well and get some points. We've got to push on from here.
"Preston have good players: Sean St Ledger, Ross Wallace, people like that. I got on with everybody; they're a good bunch of lads.
"But I'm happy with the way things have gone for me here, and I'm concentrating on helping Sheffield Wednesday get out of trouble.
"The way we've been playing, we'll be looking to win. We could have nicked a win on Saturday, and we were unfortunate not to get anything at West Brom."
Often a club do not allow their own player to play against them when he is on loan at another club, and sometimes the lending club will be paying a portion of the player's wages.
But Alan Irvine - who also returns to his old club tonight - explained: "I was delighted when I found out Eddie could play in this game. We're paying all of his wages, so probably that would have made a bit of difference.
"It was something I asked about prior to the deal being done. That was probably when we were at our strongest (in the negotiations). I knew Preston wanted to get something off their wage bill. That gave us an extra chance to push things through."
Nolan, who is on loan for the rest of the season, had not been getting a regular game at Preston under Darren Ferguson but was in Irvine's team that reached the play-offs last season.
Nolan also hopes that regular league fooball with the Owls will help him to regain his Republic of Ireland spot.
