Nick Parker: 'There's interest in three continents'

Sheffield Wednesday Chief Executive Nick Parker in a question-and- answer session for Owls fans

Can you outline the purpose of your visit to America last week with Lee Strafford?

There are a large number of potential investors in America and they have heard what is going on here at Sheffield Wednesday. They asked us to go out and talk to them and explain the process we are going through and how they might become involved.

Why is North America a target area? Is it because potential investors have become interested in Sheffield Wednesday?

There are a lot of wealthy people and funds in America; they are very interested in football and the growing involvement of this sport in the US but I have to add, this is not the only area attracting interest from potential investors. I am on record as saying that there are parties from three continents interested and that is still true, so we continue to look all over the world as further leads come from other leads we have had in the past.

The business plan states you are looking for a hands-off type investor. Are the people you have been speaking to open to this kind of approach?

Yes, very much so and that is very important, both for the way the club is run in the future and for me personally because I wouldn't really want to get the club refinanced then find it was the wrong sort of investor. I come from a background where the Stock Exchange is a funder and you have arms length investors where the company is run through a good local management team. That's what we want to deliver for the club going forward.

Presumably the positive discussions with regard to this investment process therefore reflects well on the business plan you have put together?

Yes it does, they are very, very interested in the business plan. The way things have changed over the last few months has been extremely positive for the investors. Also, the fact that the club has been so well run financially in the past is important; we don't lose millions of pounds every year, there isn't a major cash outflow and that's a credit to the longer serving directors who have managed to maintain this long-standing relationship with the bank and a stable financial situation.
