Megson demands fans are repaid
gary Megson wants Wednesday to repay the loyalty of fans after a “humbling” experience.
Dozens of supporters were on the same train as the team on the trip back from the 2-1 defeat at Exeter.
It brought it home to Megson even more how the Owls had let down their followers - and he is looking for the team to try to atone for that by putting on an improved show against Stevenage at Hillsborough tonight. “It’s really humbling, when you see that kind of commitment,” he said.
“I was talking to one dad with his lad, Jake, who was about seven or eight and decked out in all his Wednesday gear.
“It was a freezing cold day; they’ll have got on the train at about eight in the morning, and would have got home I would imagine at around midnight.”
Megson feels that the team let down the fans and “chucked away” the points at Exeter: “We haved to match the supporters’ commitment, minimum.
“Training has been good. We have a lot of putting right to do.”
But he also said: “Looking at it in the cold light of day, we’re second, we have the second highest number of wins, we’re the third highest scorers; at half time on Tuesday we’ll be two thirds of the way through the season.
“If we can do exactly the same in the final third as we have done so far, we’ll end up with around 85 points plus whatever we get from this game.
“We’re not a millions miles away but Saturday was still a disappointment.”
Miguel Llera could be replaced by Rob Jones after having around half a dozen stitches in a forehead cut.
