It’s the battle of the lean machines at Hillsborough on Saturday with two teams, in Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, who don’t find the net as much as they should but at least have a strong defence to back it up.
Sheffield Wednesday: Westwood; Palmer, Lees, Zayatte, Dielna; Lee, McGugan, Semedo, Maghoma; Nuhiu, Keane.
Middlesbrough: Konstantopoulos; Fredericks or Nsue, Kalas, Gibson, Friend; Leadbitter, Clayton or Forshaw; Bamford, Tomlin, Adomah; Kike.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Skipper Grant Leadbitter has stood out in Middlesbrough’s midfield this season. Eight of his 12 goals have come from the penalty spot (see video), including a double against Sheffield Wednesday last August. His impressive form prompted the Teesiders to extend his contract nearly three months ago, tying him down to the Riverside club until 2018.
Owls will be targeting just their second double of the campaign when they welcome Middlesbrough to Hillsborough. Wednesday are unbeaten in their last four tussles with Boro, winning three of those meetings. Atdhe Nuhiu has scored three goals in his last two matches against Boro.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Steve Martin - The Staffordshire referee has issued 68 bookings and two red cards in the 26 matches he has taken charge of this season. Martin brandished both reds to non league side Havant & Waterlooville in their FA Cup home defeat to Preston last November. His last Owls match was at Blackburn in early December when he cautioned Claude Dielna for taking his shirt off in celebration after his last-minute winner.
