Lines sets sights on regular place

CHRIS Lines has pledged to prove to Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson he is worthy of a regular spot in his midfield engine room.

The former Bristol Rovers player has not started in the last two league matches against MK Dons and Yeovil Town, with Megson preferring David Prutton in the middle of the park.

In the post-match inquest following the Owls’ 3-0 defeat to Blackpool in their FA Cup fourth round replay at Hillsborough, Megson confirmed he plans on making multiple changes to the team for the clash at Exeter City.

It is expected Lines, Liam Palmer and Chris Sedgwick will drop out of the side, as Megson is likely to restore Prutton, Jose Semedo, John Bostock and Jermaine Johnson to midfield.

Nonetheless, Lines is determined to force his way back into the first-team fold and play a starring role in their push for promotion.

He said: “I have to keep working hard in training. I am not one to moan. At the end of the day, I was playing in League Two at the start of the season and now I am playing for a club with 25,000 fans every home game. To me, this is a massive step up and I’m happy at the fact I have played a lot of games this season but I want to play to week in week out. I will work hard in training and try when I get my chance on the pitch to get my shirt back.”

Asked if he did enough against Blackpool to stay in the team, the 26-year-old said: “It is hard to say because it is the manager’s decision. I respect what ever he does and what ever he says. I always listen to him and what his advice is and stuff. I went out there against Blackpool and it was a tough game to come into. I will always give 100 per cent and we will have to see if that is enough.”

Lines believes being dropped has made him a stronger person.

“One hundred per cent,” he said. “I have never liked being on the bench all my career and I’m similar to most players. As a youngster, I started out like that but in the last0 three to four seasons I have pretty much been a regular most seasons so now I’m back on the bench I am more determined to get back off it again.”

Frotter, its no good trying to take the high moral ground AFTER making the same kind of jokecomments is it? Thats hypocritical. As for "proper football fan", you're just full of old internet cliches. You'll be saying "FACT" or "Owned" next. Stop trying to be down with the kids. Notice there arent many comments about the clown Lines silly claims though! But then again its the Wednesday Way! Brainwash the unwashed a la Megson and you all lap it up!

Have to agree with lots of what has been said about Lines. On Wednesday he was the only one driving forward, it was not his fault that anyone who he was trying to pass to rather than finding space were stood around like statues waiting for the "wonder ball". Barcelona don't play "wonder passes" they make themselves available for simple balls. (Not that Wednesday are Barcelona, before an interloper from the dark side mentions it)

Palmer got two assists in 6 starts by the way so he can't be as awful as he looked the other night, maybe he needs more games? The assist ratio would suggest that he can more than fill the Marshall spot, but does he do as much elsewhere as Marshall? Given a run of 5 games or so, surely his statistics would just get better. Most of us were ready to give him the chop after Tuesday night, but looking at this...

Stats have got Lines top with 7 assists in 21 starts, Marshall 6 in 21, Semedo on 4 in 29, then six players on 2, Clint in 7, O'G in 19 & Madine in 21. This just underlines that we need more players who can provide as high a level of assists as Lines does. Hopefully this could be Bostock, but it needs to start now & if lines is out... You can see where I am going here with my favourite thread. Come on MM get your enthusiasm back mate. No legal bills to pay now. You can't blame us for trying.

I was surprised to see Lines dropped & the comments just before Lines had to do more in games. He was the only player who kept putting the ball into the danger area against Scunny & he did it repeatedly. The players in the box squandered one chance after another & it was only because Lines put so many good balls in there that we scored again. Other teams would have bagged a hat-full. We should concentrate more on what we are good at instead of spending so much time stopping the opposition, because quite frankly our defending at times is awful.

How do, Wednesday Jack just ignore "x dresser" he is just another of those immature pigs (or piglets) that come on here trying to get a response from proper football fans like you & me. I have replied to them in the past but they are not worth it mate. Let them carry on their sad existence as though they are sat at B*mhole Lane. Pretty much on their own.

xover - in response to comment #1. Wednesday's average attendance in the league this season is 22600(ish). If you round this up to the nearest 5000 then you get 25000. Not that garbage really.

It says the Star on the banner at the top of this page. Seems Ron likes em six foot plus and with a low IQ. This one makes Bywater look like Einstien.

chris lines in the best attacking midfielder we have and i think with Samedo they have looked pretty good at time this year, he just has to find a little more consistency...i certainly feel alot more comfortable with them two in there. I like Prutton and i think he could do a job on the right hand side with JJ down the left (when in form)
