LEON Clarke could be set for a loan move out of Hillsborough.

Two clubs are showing interest in the striker - and a saving on his wages may increase Brian Laws' chances of bringing in a loan signing to ease injury problems in defence.

The Owls are comparatively well off for forwards and Clarke has had to be satisfied with a place on the bench.

Another move to get regular League games would probably suit the 23-year-old who has had loan spells at Oldham and Southend within the last 19 months.

The results of a scan on Tommy Spurr's injured ankle are awaited, with Laws a little more optimistic than he was after the defender was hurt at Plymouth:

"The swelling has come down enormously. First impressions are that it doesn't look as bad as first thought, but until we can confirm exactly what's up he's still a doubt."

He added that Richard Wood and Peter Gilbert are "coming along nicely".

But Laws remains worried by the shortage of defence cover.

The Owls boss confirmed the first stage of Frankie Simek's comeback tonight. He will play for part of the reserve game against Bradford at Stocksbridge (7pm).
