Laws hopes for November charge

MARCUS Tudgay's quick return and a good point at Crystal Palace have given Wednesday a sound start to a month that could be important for the club, believes Brian Laws.

The Owls are emerging from a spell in which their resources were severely stretched.

An improving scenario on the injury front and an easing in the hectic Championship schedule mean a better chance of an upturn in fortunes being sustained, feels Laws, as he looks forward to Saturday's home clash with Doncaster. It had been expected that Tudgay would be out for two to four weeks after he suffered a groin injury at Barnsley.

But he played for 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace only 11 days after the Oakwell derby, and Mark

Beevers and James O'Connor both made comebacks.

"Marcus did well to get back to quickly; he was desperate to play, and he showed how important he is to us," said Laws.

"We can take heart from the fact that we've only got one long-term injury (Richard Hinds).

"I've got three or four who are still way off match fitness but the match fitness is coming along.

"It won't be long before we've got hungry players, disappointed players, because they're not all going to get in the side.

"November is going to be an important month for us. It can be a good month for us.

"We've played five games in a short space of time and we didn't have the consistency because we were having to change the team every week.

"There hasn't been enough time in between games to work on things with those players who were fit, because the games were coming so thick and fast.

"Now we're getting back to playing Saturday-Saturday and possibly the players who play in one game will be fit for the next.

"We've got a clear week now for recovery and work on the training ground as we go into another derby."
