Laws happy to play game of patience
BRIAN Laws is willing to be patient as he ponders the prospect of adding a loan striker to his squad.
The Owls boss missed out on Freddie Sears when the West Ham starlet opted to stay in London by joining West Ham.
But Laws is in no hurry, because of two factors.
He has learned that most Premier League clubs are not contemplating letting players go out on loan until later this month.
And now that Wednesday's players are back in training, he wants to take a close look at how his current strikers, Akpo Sodje, Francis Jeffers, Leon Clarke and Marcus Tudgay, are shaping up.
The Hillsborough chief explained: "We moved for Sears because West Ham were willing to do an early deal; otherwise we wouldn't have tried to bring someone in so quickly.
"But a lot of Premier League clubs we have spoken to are not letting players go out until late July; they report back later than us, so that's the sort of timescale if we do need to take that route.
"While the loan market could be useful, first I want to look at the four strikers we've got and see how they are getting on."
A fit, eager and on-form quartet of Sodje, Jeffers, Clarke and Tudgay could be potent. And one of the two trialists due at Hillsborough next week could be a striker.
Wednesday are now holding one pre-Malta get-together for fans, instead of two, and it will take place next Wednesday (7-9m) in Hillsborough's Hallamshire Suite when they will be able to meet fellow travellers and get information about the pre-season trip.
There will be an extra welcome party on Malta on July 12.
The club first unveiled their new kits in April but held a launch party and fashion show for fans at Hillsborough last night, with proceeds going to charity. The home strip goes on sale tomorrow in the Owls megastore..
