SHEFFIELD Wednesday this afternoon confirmed a surprise loan swoop for Slovenian defender David Kasnik.
A new striker rather than a defender has been the club’s priority ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
But Kasnik has been signed on loan until January from Olimpija Ljubljana of Slovenia, subject to international clearance.
Aged 24, he can play at centre half or full back.
He said: “Sheffield Wednesday is a really big club and this is a good opportunity for me to impress the manager and the fans.
“I can play in the centre of defence or at left back but I much prefer to play in the centre.”
He has played 47 games for Ljubljana, who are second in the Slovenian league, since joining them in 2008 from Dravograd.
Wednesday are also believed to be homing in on Bury striker Ryan Lowe with the January transfer window set to close at 11pm tomorrow.
