It is fortunate for Wednesday that Matty Fryatt had no qualms about joining a club who are at the bottom end of the table.
He accepts life in that environment as a fact of life for a striker who goes out on loan to get games.
“Normally if you’re a striker going on loan it’s not to a club at the top end of the table, because they’re doing well; you’re going to a club who need you to score some goals and need a bit of help,” he told the Green’Un.
“That’s what I’m here to do - play games and hopefully score goals.”
He could not have made a much better start, on his full debut at Brighton.
I don’t think Wednesday have anyone else who would have taken that chance with such aplomb.
It needed control, awareness and technique: with his back to goal, he controlled Jeremy Helan’s left-wing pass with his left foot then swivelled and slotted the ball home confidently with his right foot.
