Highly-rated striker Lucas Joao insists he is happy at Sheffield Wednesday despite speculation linking him with a move away from Hillsborough.
Joao stepped up off the bench to grab a late equaliser as the Owls secured a 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
It was the 22-year-old’s seventh goal of the season and ensured Carlos Carvalhal’s side remain in eighth position.
Newly-capped Portuguese international Joao has reportedly been attracting the interest of Premier League Everton. The Star understands the Angolan-born forward is on Crystal Palace’s radar.
But Joao is enjoying life in South Yorkshire and wants to help Wednesday push on.
He told The Star: “Sheffield Wednesday are an amazing club. The atmosphere is unbelievable in the dressing room and I love the club.
“It is a dream come true playing in England and I want to stay here to help Sheffield Wednesday.”
While Joao is pleased to have netted three times in his last two outings, he was disappointed the Owls failed to pick up maximum points in Lancashire.
“I’m very happy that I scored; it is the best moment of my career that is for sure,” he said. “I am in a good moment but the most important thing is the team do well.
“I was disappointed that we didn’t win the game. We played better in the second half. We tried to win but it was not possible.
“A draw is not a bad result away from home. Hopefully we will play better in the next game.”
Wednesday travel to Stoke City in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup tomorrow, with boss Carlos Carvalhal confirming youngster Joe Wildsmith will start in goal. Fernando Forestieri is ineligible, having played in the competition for Watford earlier this campaign.
Joao said: “Stoke have quality players but we don’t fear them. We will try our best and do what we can to win.”
