Izzy isn't coming, but Beattie could be

BRIAN Laws has confirmed an interest in West Brom striker Craig Beattie.

But reports that Charlton's Izzy McLeod will be moving to Hillsborough on loan have been dismissed by the Owls manager.

Both players were included in a host of inquiries made by Laws in recent weeks.

But he has taken Enoch Showunmi and Ben Sahar on loan.

Laws is still set to extend Showunmi's loan for at least another month. Tomorrow's match at Barnsley is the last of the Bristol City striker's first month at Hillsborough.

Laws reacted to incorrect reports that Beattie had already joined the Owls.

"He has been on my radar for quite a while - so have a lot of players. I have made so many inquiries to other managers and clubs that I'm not surprised we have been linked with players.

"A player like Beattie could possibly improve our team. I'll certainly be more positive than negative with him."

Asked about McLeod, the Owls manager said: "When we wanted certain players they weren't available; when they are available, the clubs expect us to take them but by then we have moved on to something new."

Sahar was landed from Chelsea last week and is in contention for a full debut at Oakwell tomorrow.

McLeod is also wanted on loan by League Two outfit Barnet.

There will be no additions to the Wednesday squad before the weekend.

But Laws is refusing to rule out the addition of another striker and presumably will be deciding soon whether to make a firm move for Beattie.

He added: "If there are players who are available and will improve our team we'll try to bring them in."

Beattie, aged 24, was signed for 1.25 million from Celtic last summer .

But he has made only a handful of Championship starts for West Brom.
