Injury woe for Megson

Electrifying show: Jermaine Johnson scored a wonder goal

GARY Megson’s plans for tonight’s game at Scunthorpe have been hit by injuries - as he also faces the question of whether or not to hand Jermaine Johnson a start.

The Owls manager normally tells his players the line-up on the day before a match but has been unable to do so this time and the full extent of his problems, though undisclosed, is believed to stretch beyond those affecting Reda Johnson (back) and Rob Jones (ankle).

Megson has to decide whether to put Jermaine Johnson in the side, while praising him for his wonder goal as a sub against Hartlepool but also pointing to his unpredictability.

“We’ve got quite a few issues to sort out,” said the Owls boss.

“I always name the team and work on set-pieces the day before a game, but we’ve not been in a position where we could do that. We’ll wait and see.

“Sometimes people who you maybe don’t expect to be fit can surprise you after 24 hours’ treatment and rest.”

Megson said JJ falls into the category of “what are you going to get from him?”

He added: “Are we going to get the person who ripped Hartlepool after his first couple of minutes? He caused them all sorts of problems, They were changing their formation to cope with him.

“He also did it playing at right wing-back. We need to know all the time what we’re getting, You’ll accept vagaries of performance a little bit, but not chalk and

cheese. That’s something that JJ has struggled with in the past, and hopefully the penny will drop.

“On his day, he is electrifying. He did well on Saturday so hopefully he can carry on in the same vein if selected.”

Megson said JJ was unhappy after being left out of the 16 for the Charlton game.

“He had the hump because he wasn’t involved. I told him when he does get these opportunities, he’s got to take them” Megson said.

“On Saturday he went across to the side in front of the cantilever and his first two touches were a bit inauspicious. He came across to the other side and he was terrific after that.”

Looking for reliability from the Jamaica international, Megson added: “I don’t know

what I’m getting. I do know what I’m getting from Lewis Buxton, for example, or Rob Jones.

“Managers like those kind of players. I know what I’m getting from every single player in terms of workrate, honesty and drive, because they’ve got that in spades.

“You look at JJ against West Ham; there probably wasn’t another person on the pitch who could have got on to that chance that he created for himself; then he slows down and somehow manages to roll it past the goal.

“It was astounding; then he astounds the other way by beating players from inside his own half and smashing it in [against Hartlepool]. His highs sometimes are fantastic; his lows are sometimes way, way too low.”

Just been in the bar and some pri.ck who clearly fancies himself was showing off and chatting up all the girls with no luck, I gave him a look that made him know that I think he is a bel.lend, so he walked up to me like 10 men and said "Whats your proplem di.ckhead", So I said "Nothing mate your just making yourself look like a reyt bel.lend", He then started gobbong off "I bet I get 20 times more girls than you do dick.ead", I then explained to him that 20 x 0 = 0 ..... So that shut him up.

Let JJ sit on the bench from kick-off and come on at a later stage, then he'll know he's involved in the game at some stage; then play him in Cup v Blackpool for 90 minutes, that makes sense in the bigger scheme of things.

I've just been reading all about the Northern lights. It's the first time I've seen brightly coloured flares in Yorkshire since the 1970s.

I wonder if the dip in Wednesdays fortunes are down to how Milan is feeling at the moment? I understand from an accountant, that it happens often, but the trail is usually covered up. I can't imagine it being the only time he has paid a bung.

Good luck to the lads tonight, hopefully we can stay at least one flukey goal ahead of the opposition. How is uncle Milan going on? Is he still looking destined for Doncatraz? UTFO!

I find it refreshing that Megson speaks his mind. Although when he uses an argument against one player he must apply the same argument to them all. Our captain Rob Jones has played in all the games that GM recently criticised us for losing points in & Lierra has also come on in for Jones in two of them & not made much difference, despite looking more composed than Jones. GM has good reasons for dropping both players, and starting with Beevers. Surely after the rave reviews he was getting at MK and the £1M valuation from GM, he should just walk straight into the team? I dont blame Jones or Lierra for any of the bad results but by Megsons reasoning & the fact that the Jones is forever coming off the pitch injured I dont understand why Beevers is not getting the occasional start if only to save a forced substitution every other game. UTFO!

I think before tonights game at Scunny there should be a moments silence Ihave been watching the News and listening to the lengthy report about the trial of Mr Mandaric our Chairman and Harry Redknapp I do not know the ins and outs of the matter but from I have heard someone has or is going to tell Porkies to the Court and it could well be that one or both may not be watching football for a while after the conclusion of the proceedings
