Happy returns for Owls' cup hero
OWLS boss Alan Irvine has hailed two-goal star James O'Connor and welcomed a selection headache for Sunday's televised League match at Brentford.
O'Connor hit the goals that handed Wednesday a 2-1 win against Notts County last night in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and he almost bagged the first hat-trick of his career, after being recalled to the side.
Irvine, who made four changes to the team that won 5-0 at Hartlepool, acknowledged: "There were two good goals from James and he gave a good all-round performance, as did many others. With the changes that were made, everybody played well. I'm absolutely delighted. I didn't have so many (selection] problems after the Scunthorpe game, but I 've got problems after this one.
"We were terrific at times, We started absolutely brilliantly. We gave them a leg up with a goal we didn't defend very well. But at times in the first half our football was fantastic."
Chris Sedgwick went off with a groin niggle but Irvine expects him to be fit for the Brentford game. O'Connor said the win and his goals were "a nice present" on his 31st birthday. He had a chance for a third goal in stoppage time and said the keeper got a touch to his shot though a goal kick was given.
The draw for the next round takes place on Saturday on TV's Soccer AM.
