MICHAEL Morrison is banking on a quick return to the Championship after moving from Leicester to Hillsborough.
The defender believes that the Owls can follow the Foxes by winning promotion from League One.
He also points to Leeds and Norwich as examples of former League One clubs who are now thriving in the Championship.
"This is a Championship team," said the 22-year-old.
"When you look at Leeds, Leicester and Norwich, you see what can happen.
"If you do well in League One, there's no reason why you can't push on and do well in the Championship.
"The players here are ready. Promotion is what everybody wants. We're more than capable.
"If we're not up there at the end of the season, there will be a lot of disappointed people around Sheffield.
"I'm sure we can be successful."
Morrison will enter the Owls' promotion campaign when he makes his home debut against Charlton on Saturday after his first game came in the FA Cup at Bristol City.
The 250,000 defender added: "Norwich, Leeds and Leicester are good teams. It was a sad time when Wednesday got relegated; I think you can take one step back and two forward.
"Hopefully this is a step forward in my career; I'm sure it will be.
"First-team football isn't guaranteed. I've been given the chance straight away. It's up to me to keep the shirt."
Morrison is primarily a right-side centre-half but had a sound game at right-back in last Saturday's 3-0 Cup win at Bristol.
"Hopefully we can progress in the tournament," he added. "The league is the priority but hopefully that win can help to build momentum and we can go on a good run."
Manager Alan Irvine identified Morrison as a player he wanted and says that chairman Milan Mandaric then played a "huge" part in arranging the deal with his former club: "I think Milan managed to do a deal with Leicester that nobody else would be able to do.
"He has very strong links with Leicester. He did the negotiations, as far as the clubs were concerned, and was very confident that the deal would go through."
