Goal rush turns match for 100 per cent Owls: MATCH REPORT

Stormvogels Telstar 0 v Sheffield Wednesday 3: WEDNESDAY were flying back from Holland today with a 100 per cent record from their two-match stay.

They beat Stormvogels Telstar 3-0 last night to follow their 2-0 victory against Haarlem.

All last night's goals came in an eight-minute rush in the second half.

Tudgay put the Owls ahead in the 60th minute with a powerful header from cross by Tommy Spurr, and this was followed by a neat header from his striker partner Burton.

Jermaine Johnson made it three in the 68th minute after taking a pass from Burton and breaking clear. After beating three opponents, he drove a shot past the Telstar keeper.

Leon Clarke started up front with Tudgay and caused the Dutch team lots of problems, with their keeper having to work hard.

Brian Laws made six changes: Richard Wood, Peter Gilbert, Sean McAllister, James O'Connor, Luke Boden and Marcus Tudgay all started. and Liam McMenamin, Spurr, Johnson, Steve Watson and Burton were on the bench. Jimmy Smith was not risked after getting an ankle knock in the Haarlem game.

Tudgay had an early chance, and Clarke hit the woodwork and brought fine saves from the keeper, who also denied Johnson.

In the 35th minute boss Brian Laws made his first substitution bring on Jermaine Johnson to replace James O'Connor.

This meant a slight change in the playing structure with Johnson going out wide on the right wing and Sean McAllister who had been doing a sterling job in that role moved to the centre of midfield.

Laws made two changes, bringing Burton into play in the place of the first-half threat of Clarke while Spurr took over from Mark Beevers in the heart of the defence.

The inspired change almost produced the goods immediately when Burton drove in a shot that rattled the woodwork. Then Johnson had a shot that narrowly missed the target.

Owls: Grant (O'Donnell 66), Hinds (McMenamin 68, Wood, Beevers (Spurr ht), Gilbert, McAllister, O'Connor (Johnson 35), Boden, Esajas, Tudgay (Lekaj 66), Clarke (Burton ht).

Goals: Tudgay (60), Burton (66), Johnson (68).
