Oguchi Onyewu was brought up in America and has played in five European countries besides England.
But the international flavour of his career with club and country has not left him in need of a history lesson about Sheffield football.
Spells with Newcastle and QPR made him sufficiently acquainted with the English game to gain knowledge of Wednesday and United.
“Having played in England before, I was definitely aware of the two Sheffield teams, Wednesday and United, knowing that Sheffield Wednesday historically have been a very massive club,” he says.
“In recent years obviously the team hasn’t performed so well, but I know they have ambitions to get back to where they should be, in the Premier League. It takes time, step by step.”
