GARY Madine scored twice and Nicky Weaver made an important save near the end to help Sheffield Wednesday to a home win over Scunthorpe.
There was plenty for Wednesday fans to talk about before the game after Adam LeFondre’s move from Rotherham which left the Owls still looking for a new striker.
Then the opening minutes at Hillsborough were full of incidents with Wednesday taking the lead through one of their existing front men and benefiting from the referee changing his mind about a bad penalty decision.
It had taken Blackburn only three minutes to score in midweek and today Wednesday struck in the fifth minute through the same combination that brought them victory against Notts County last week - a right wing cross from rampaging full back Buxton at the Leppings Lane end and a close range finish by MADINE.
Quality football from the Owls made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. Palmer made a forward pass down the left to MARSHALL, who from a tight angle, and just inside the area scored with a precise shot in to the far corner for his first goal for the Owls.
The Owls were split apart in a link up between two visiting strikers with Dagnall putting GRANT in to space on the left side of the area for the number 17 to slot the low shot past Weaver and in to the net after 67 minutes.
Semedo was fouled as he knocked the ball through the middle but the referee played advantage and away went MADINE to keep his head and place his shot in to the keeper’s bottom right hand corner for his second of the game.
Scunthorpe pulled another goal back in 85 minutes. From the left side of the box, su DUFFY, produced a fine strike
Duffy had a free header in front of goal and an equaliser beckoned but Weaver made a brilliant one handed save, diving down to his right.
