Sheffield Wednesday let a 1-0 lead slip at Portman Road as second half goals from Daryl Murphy and Luke Chambers gave Ipswich Town victory.

Kieren Lee had put Wednesday in front after 20 minutes but Mick McCarthy’s men fought back after the break to stretch the Owls’ winless run to five.

After a slow start in which chances on goal were at a premium, Ipswich had the first real opportunity when Murphy, once a loanee at Wednesday, fizzed a shot just wide of the net.

However, just after that let off for Stuart Gray’s side, Lee opened the scoring when a Will Keane flick on caused havoc as Stevie May steamed in and the Wednesday midfielder knocked home.

May should have doubled the advantage ten minutes later when after good work by Sam Hutchinson and Keane, the Scottish striker fired wide when he should have at least hit the target.

Ipswich came into the game more as the half went on and it was they who liked most likely to score next.

Freddie Sears fired over when well placed and then right on half time, Murphy smashed against the post after a fine cross from Stephen Hunt.

And the Tractor Boys started the second half where they left off when Murphy evaded his marker to latch onto a Sears cross and glance past Westwood.

It was all Ipswich at this stage and the home side struck the post soon after equalising when Darren Ambrose headed Tyrone Mings’ cross.

Hutchinson, already booked and looking like he might pick up another card, was susbstituted on the hour mark and replaced by new signing Filipe Melo.

Lewis McGugan came off and was replaced by Atdhe Nuhiu and Lewis Buxton came on for Marnick Vermijl but Ipswich went in front just after as Chambers headed in.

The game petered out after that with Ipswich comfortable and Wednesday looking unlikely to draw level.

Lewis McGugan starts for the Owls in the only change Stuart Gray has made from the weekend draw with Cardiff.

Out goes the suspended Chris Maguire who serves the first of a two match ban for picking up ten yellow cards this term.

Lewis Baker has been recalled by parent club Chelsea while new signing Filipe Melo makes his first appearance among the Wednesday substitutes.
