Sheffield Wednesday went through to the third round of the Capital One Cup tonight after a 1-0 win over Premier League side Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Owls progressed thanks to substitute Atdhe Nuhiu’s late penalty, awarded after Jason Shackell fouled Jeremy Helan.
Chris Maguire and the recalled Gary Madine both enjoyed good second-half chances for the Owls, who had earlier started slowly - Michael Kightly spurning a glorious chance to break the deadlock after just two minutes.
But Stuart Gray’s side regrouped, and could have taken the lead themselves - but the crossbar denied them.
Midfielder Sam Hutchinson failed a late fitness test ahead of the game, but Owls boss Gray did make four changes for the trip to Turf Moor.
Striker Madine returned after scoring in the first-round win over Notts County, while Chris Kirkland, Kamil Zayatte and Jeremy Helan all start.
Out go Keiren Westwood, Glenn Llovens, Nuhiu and Stevie May.
Burnley, meanwhile, made seven changes from the side which lost at Swansea on Saturday.
