News that the game against Derby could conceivably be the last that Connor Wickham and Matty Fryatt play together has come as a bit of a damper.
The pair hit it off so well against Reading that you would not have guessed they had trained together only once, on the day before the Reading match.
Now it is a wait to find out what Steve Bruce will say when he calls Dave Jones next week, having unexpectedly lost Sone Aluko until next year.
Hopefully it will not be bad news: perhaps Hull will pick up no further injuries in their game at Southampton; perhaps Bruce will tell Jones that Fryatt can stay so long as he does not lose any more players.
