Carlos Carvalhal is confident his Sheffield Wednesday squad will look much healthier by the end of this week.
The Owls had only 14 fit and available players in training at times during the international break while Barry Bannan was among a number who sat out Saturday’s 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town.
Carvalhal felt the strain took its toll on Wednesday during the first half as they struggled to match the energy levels of David Wagner’s Huddersfield.
But the Owls head coach expects Bannan to be among a trio of players to return to training this week. providing a timely boost with the Owls set to begin a period of eight games in 30 days.
“We will recover some players,” Carvalhal said. “We started training last week with 14 players - and we have a big squad.
Barry Bannan, Alex Lopez and Michael Turner will be back in training this week.
“We had Modou Sougou back on the bench against Huddersfield.
“We have a lot of games so it will be a very difficult period for us. We need a full squad ready as we have a lot of games over Christmas.
“Sam Hutchinson will be available after Blackburn, so they are four players who are very important to us.”
Hutchinson will complete his two-match suspension for picking up 10 yellow cards with Saturday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers.
Carvalhal confirmed full-back Rhoys Wiggins and striker Sergiu Bus were left out of Saturday’s squad due to minor injuries.
Defender Claude Dielna was used in a matchday squad for the first time this season against Huddersfield.
