End-game as Sheard talks to financiers
FANS group Wednesdayite say they have put Geoff Sheard in touch with financiers to help "speed up" his Sheffield Wednesday takeover process.
The Lancashire businessman, now aware there is a growing clamour for matters to be brought to a conclusion very soon, had talks yesterday.
There were suggestions last week of calls for a deadline on Sheard's attempt.
Darryl Keys, Wednesdayite chairman, said today that he would be "extremely surprised" if it was not sorted in two weeks.
He had a meeting with Sheard at Saturday's game with Ipswich which Sheard attended with a business associate from Blackburn.
"He understands he needs to speed up the process but there are no guarantees; it is all extremely complicated," said Keys.
"We provided him with more information and, as part of the process, put him and his people in touch with someone who we felt could help.
"Things have been ongoing since and I gather they had good discussions and there has been some movement."
Keys said the contacts were in finance.
"This is the start of the end-game. There are other people who have expressed some interest and I would say there are options if the Sheard bid should fall through.," he added.
"But we are now moving towards the conclusion whatever that may be. I would be extremely surprised if it is not sorted in two weeks.
"We were happy to help and, for everyone's sake, we all want something to happen soon."
Sheard is fronting a bid to buy the shares of three individuals, current director Geoff Hulley, former chairmam Dave Allen and ex-director Keith Addy which would amount to 29.9 per cent.
Wednesdayite have also voted to sell their 10 per cent block to him with conditions.
Meanwhile, Wednesdayite held their first board meeting at Hillsborough after Saturday's game.
The club provided a lounge and refreshments and Keys said: "They made us very welcome and it follows up the meeting we had with the club last week."
