LIVE television coverage of Sheffield Wednesday’s FA Cup tie at Morecambe brings the club a £67,500 bonus.
That is the fee for live screening of first-round games and it will go to each of the six clubs who go before the cameras on FA Cup weekend.
Winners of first-round ties get £18,500 from the FA’s prize fund.
The Owls’ match at Morecambe a week on Sunday, kick-off 3.15pm, has them facing a televised away tie against a lesser club for the second season in succession.
ITV put the match at non-League outfit Southport under the microscope a year ago, maybe in the hope that they would be recording one of the competition’s famous upsets.
But Wednesday won 5-2 with goals from Clinton Morrison, 2, Gary Teale, Neil Mellor and Tommy Spurr.
Another cup run would swell the coffers and run alongside a promotion challenge as the Owls make life sweet for Milan Mandaric.
The chairman, less than a year into his reign, has again made it clear he has no immediate plans to sell the club.
A claim that they could be taken over by a 64-year-old former actress and glamour model, Sybil Danning, and her husband, Horst Lasse, has been given short shrift. The Owls owner said he had never met or spoken to the couple.
He gave the same response last month after being linked with a wealthy Russian.
Mandaric has also said, as he has done several times since taking over, that if one day someone comes along who can do a better job, then he will hand over the reigns.
From a business point of view it could make little sense to accept an offer now even if he was to receive one, for the club will be more valuable if promotion is achieved.
Mandaric is pleased to have steered the club in the right direction on and off the field.
He said: “I am 100 per cent committed to Sheffield Wednesday but if the right person or persons come along who can take this club further forward, I
would stand aside, I have done that at my previous clubs. When my time does come to step aside, I will leave this club in much better shape than when I came here
last December. But until that day comes, my focus is here and my heart is at Hillsborough.
“Sheffield Wednesday is an iconic brand and, as always, every decision I make will be in the best interests of our club.”
