Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of winger Aiden McGeady from Everton until the end of the season.

The 29 year old completed a medical on Sunday night and trained with the Owls squad today (Monday) at Middlewood.

McGeady has been out of favour at the Toffees but is hungry to get first team action as he bids to ensure of a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for the European Championships in the summer.

It is believed that Everton also agreed a loan fee with Blackburn Rovers for the Scotland-born player, but McGeady went for Wednesday's offer.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Burnley, head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: "I'm very happy to bring McGeady here, he has extra quality and I know him very well. He will help us, I'm absolutely sure."

Former team mate at Celtic, Ross Wallace said that McGeady was an 'excellent addition' and added: "It's brilliant for the group Aiden has signed. I love seeing good players come in."
