Club and Clinton clear contract obstacle

WEDNESDAY have resolved the contract snag involving Clinton Morrison.

Gary Megson recently revealed that he was having to contend with an “issue” over the striker’s deal, which ends this summer.

The Owls manager did not divulge details but Morrison is understood to have had a clause in the contract that said he was entitled to a new deal if he made a certain number of appearances.

Tommy Miller and Darren Purse, who are no longer at Hillsborough, had similar contracts and the agreements all dated from the pre-Milan Mandaric era.

But yesterday Megson declared that the Morrison issue had been “sorted.”

Again he refused to go into detail. “I have spoken to Clinton and we have got over that problem,” he said.

Megson confirmed that the striker has not been given a new contract and can be selected freely.

It seems likely that Morrison has given up the right to a new contract if he plays a certain number of games.

While this may make his longer-term future less secure there may be more chance of him playing this season.

The striker started the FA Cup tie at Blackpool and scored a superb goal. He also played as a sub at MK Dons on Tuesday, and is likely to start the cup replay next Tuesday if Megson again decides to rest regulars.

Morrison was preferred to Ryan Lowe on the bench at MK Dons, where he enjoyed a loan spell.

Megson explained: “When you go back to a team you used to play for, you really want to do well.

“I thought if Clinton got 10 minutes he might get that goal. It didn’t work out like that but he did do well.”

Megson- "Now ..Clinton... I am not Irvine and that is not that pri.ck Allen, alright? Here's the deal...... scrap the clause." ..Morrison- "What? Thats not a deal!".. Mandaric "For you it is sweet cheeks now shut the fu.ck up".. Megson- "So what do you say Clinty boy? What..... uh?...... thought so... now sign here and fu.ck off.".....
