Clinton contract gives Owls problem

CLINTON Morrison is at the centre of a Tommy Miller-style headache for Gary Megson.

Miller’s selection prospects needed careful thought last season because his contract said he was entitled to a new deal if he played a certain number of games.

Megson has just been made aware that Morrison has a similar clause in his contract.

Miller was released last summer and joined Huddersfield. Darren Purse, another former Owls captain, had the same type of contract. He was allowed to join Millwall, during Alan Irvine’s reign.

Morrison’s two-year deal runs out this year. Megson said there was no chance of him leaving before today’s deadline.

The boss refused to go into detail about the contract but said: “It’s one of those dopey clauses they put in contracts for some players before Milan Mandaric, Paul Aldridge and I arrived, and we have to cope with it now. In terms of a bigger role for Clinton, we’ll have to wait and see.

“I get on really well with Clinton. We’ve had a chat about it and we’ll handle it in the best way for Wednesday and for Clinton.”

Megson also said that the contract issue did not present an imminent snag but was something he could do without. Morrison is not a first-team regular but showed his worth with his goal on his recallo in the FA Cup.
