Fernando Forestieri is a special player who can make the difference for Sheffield Wednesday.

That is the verdict of head coach Carlos Carvalhal who spoke of his delight at the impact made by the forward since his arrival from Watford in late August.

Forestieri has managed one goal and one assist in four matches so far for the Owls, figures which arguably should be better.

Carvalhal revealed he had pushed the Italian hard to return from a hamstring injury which kept him out of the trip to Brentford and the Newcastle United cup clash.

The 25-year-old did return prior to the international break in the win over Preston and Carvalhal is hoping he will return to full fitness in time for Saturday’s Hillsborough clash against Hull City.

“He is a special player,” Carvalhal said.

“We pushed him a lot for Preston.

“He had only trained three or four days and we pushed him to come to the game.

“Fernando can do different things and we don’t have another player in that position in the squad.

“He can link the midfield with the attack. He is important to us.

“We can play with two strikers and Marco to link midfield.

“Fernando in our opinion can be important. He was important but he was not 100 per cent.”
