Brunt backs Feeney to shine for Sheffield Wednesday

WEST Brom and former Wednesday star Chris Brunt believes that Warren Feeney can be a Hillsborough hit.

The two are Northern Ireland teammates but are on opposite sides tomorrow after Feeney was signed by Brian Laws on loan from Cardiff.

"If he can show for Wednesday the sort of form he showed in our World Cup qualifying campaign then he'll be a great signing," Brunt told The Star.

"When we played Poland and Slovenia in March he scored in both games.

"He's a hard-working lad, full of energy and always puts a shift in, even if things aren't going well. He's unselfish on the pitch, a bubbly lad and good for the dressing room."

Feeney, who also figured for Northern Ireland against the Czech Republic and Serbia this season, has been signed for a month along with Stoke midfield player Tom Soares.

It will be Brunt's second return to Hillsborough since his 3 million exit just over two years ago: West Brom won 1-0 there in March 2008.

The winger said: "It's nice to go back again. I owe them a lot.

"It will be nice to go back and speak to Brian Laws and Russ Wilcox again; they were always good with me and we've kept in touch.

"We'll be going to Hillsborough with confidence. But we know it's going to be tough.

"It's the nature of the Championship; you don't expect an easy ride anywhere."

Owls boss Brian Laws said: "Chris Brunt can give you goals and quality delivery. It's very difficult to replace him.

"While I'm looking forward to seeing him - we've kept in touch quite a bit - I hope he has a stinker for this one day!"
