Brilliant, frustrating, controversial...

The Star comes up with five other players from different eras who could be brilliant or frustrating or controversial ... or all of the above!

gary Megson has said that playing Jermaine Johnson can be a bit of a gamble because he can never quite be sure what he is going to get from the forward.

But football at all levels does throw up players who can make you guess about what will happen next.

Mario Balotelli

A top-class player but at times gets himself into trouble, most recently when he was accused of stamping on Tottenham’s Scott Parker. The Italian once publicly wore an AC Milan top while he was an Inter player, and on another occasion was attacked by Inter fans for throwing his shirt to the ground.

El Hadji Diouf

Currently with Doncaster, he has in his time shown flair and direct running and was a hit at Bolton, but he fell out with Steve Kean at Blackburn and has been involved in various controversies.

Mark Chamberlain

A Wednesday winger when the club were in the top flight in the 80s, he established a reputation as a super sub and, rather like Johnson, had some fans calling for his inclusion in the starting side. But when Howard Wilkinson did that against Everton, the Owls were well beaten.

Matt Le Tissier

A Southampton legend from the 80s an90s, had extravagant skills but stayed with Saints for the whole of his career. Was that because bigger clubs thought it would be too big a gamble to sign him for big money?

Joey Barton

Has long been a controversial figure and has had his problems on and off the field, Neil Warnock saw his talent but ended up getting the sack and being attacked by Barton on Twitter.

Think you're right Solihul_Owl - no one seems to have taken ownership of it! How about taking money under false pretenses - Fox-in-the-box anyone.

When was Matt Le tissier ever Frustrating or Contraversial? I could have come up with this in my sleep - oh wait here you go Paulo Di Canio and his need to touch referees! Norman (Bites yer legs) hunter John Barnes (when playing for england) Bruce Grobelaar - eccentric is not enough of a word. and of course - the creme de la creme Paul Gasgoine - So brilliant - so sad

Where are Di Canio, Cantona, Keane, Bould, Hoddle. All controversial and or talented. Chamberlain????? There are hundreds of more controversial, challenging, frustrating and talented examples. Awful, awful, awful. Back to the drawing board and journalism school please.

I think this article must have been completed by the work experience student while on their morning break. Truly shocking journalism.

Strig, Chamberlain never got a fair crack of the whip because Wilkinson always preferred Marwood. On the rare occasion he played he was put on the left wing and couldn't cross with his left foot for toffee, all his crosses would come in shin high and would be easily cut out.

Seem to remember Mark Chamberlain as neither, just an average player with a bit of pace
