DEFENDER Danny Batth is ignoring the League One table for now, insisting it is more important for Sheffield Wednesday to keep on maintaining their flying form.
Buoyed by a 2-1 victory at Notts County, the Owls are targeting a fourth straight win under new boss Dave Jones at home to Walsall tomorrow night.
Centre-back Batth, on loan from Wolves, is calling on his teammates to not lose their focus in the battle for automatic promotion.
“I’m not keeping too much of an eye on the table,” he said. “It is important we keep this run going. Walsall beat us at their place and we have got to get the three points to keep motoring on.
“The fans will remember the Walsall game because it was on Boxing Day and we lost late on. It is not far for me and it is a big game; we have to be solid, keep a strong back four and look to keep a clean sheet.”
Batth praised the team for securing their first triumph on the road in almost two months at Meadow Lane and thinks Jones has lifted morale.
“The confidence is there now,” he said. “The lads are maybe taking a shot that they weren’t taking before. We are looking to trust each other and try out new things.”
Rob Jones was taken off after 17 minutes at Notts County because of a neck problem. His injury setback meant Miguel Llera came on and partnered Batth at centre-half.
“I train with Rob and Miguel week in week out so I have an understanding with both of them,” said Batth. “They are both top players.”
