Akpo blow - Sodje out for up to six weeks

AKPO Sodje faces a spell of four to six weeks on the sidelines, Wednesday confirmed today.

It is a big blow for the club and the striker after he made his comeback at Derby last Saturday.

He has suffered a tear in the hamstring muscle.

Last Saturday he was taken off in the second half after making his first start since the first day of the season.

Sodje went off in the opening game against Burnley after tearing the tendon that attaches the hamstring to the back of the knee.

Manager Brian Laws said today: "Unfortunately, the results of a scan on Akpo revealed a tear in the hamstring.

"This is not the same injury as before, but once you get a hamstring injury, they are notorious for ongoing problems in the same muscle group and it looks like Akpo will be out for between four and six weeks."

Sodje is a key player for the Owls.

He was hoping that his injury problems were behind him; he also missed the last three months of last season with an ankle injury.

He partnered Leon Clarke at Derby; Laws still has four fit strikers in Marcus Tudgay, Clarke, Francis Jeffers and Deon Burton.

Left back Tommy Spurr (deadleg) and winger Wade Small (hamstring) have not been ruled out for Saturday, and Peter Gilbert (Achilles) and Etienne Esajas (Achilles) should both be fit.
