£700,000 John set for home debut

Fresh chance: John Bostock is pleased to have joined the Owls

Fresh chance: John Bostock is pleased to have joined the Owls

OWLS new boy John Bostock is poised to make his Hillsborough bow tomorrow against Yeovil.

The 20-year-old loan signing from Spurs could be handed a full debut.

Manager Gary Megson never names his team publicly beforehand but admitted that home fans can expect to see the £700,000 midfield man at some stage.

“Tottenham were quite keen that he gets the minutes under his belt here,” said the Owls chief.

“He is a quality player. He started down at Palace, went for a lot of money as a youngster - whether that’s the ideal thing I’m not so sure - and his career has hit a bit of a standstill.

“He’s been out on loan at Hull and Brentford, and now he’s got the opportunity here. I don’t have the time or the inclination to wait. Everybody, when they get the opportunity, has to work hard and play well. John certainly did that on Tuesday.”

Bostock played as a sub at MK Dons. “He showed his talent when he ran with the ball from his own half,” said Megson. “He’s really languid on the ball and has great touch and control. He’s got to find a way of applying himself so he can have a lot more impact on the game than ordinarily he might do.

“We have central midfield players who are very good at tackling, or closing down, or running forward with the ball, or picking a pass; John is a bit different - he can play wide or in the middle.”

Bostock said: “I’m delighted to be here. I know Wednesday is a massive club; just to train with the lads at the stadium was amazing, so I’m really looking forward to the game.”

Bostock was signed by Spurs from Crystal Palace when he was 16 and admits that he has faced a “challenging” time with them. “But now I’m just getting my head down to play games and hopefully I can kick on,” he said.

Could I ask you filthy grunters a few simple questions? Ever seen your team win at wembley or Cardiff? Ever seen your team lift one of the three major domestic trophies? Ever seen your team play in Europe? Ever won a big game? Ever seen one of your players be voted the best in the country? I'll spare your couple of brain cells. The answer to all is no. The answer if you are a Wednesday fan would be yes. Now that my little pink chums is why we are massive and your just a filthy rat infested little club who has to have an ex Wednesday player and manager in charge. UTO FTB

What a list of players you've brought on. Apart from only having them for a very limited amount of time and then not getting anything in return what else did you get Tonyowl? A chance at promotion from division three. Keep bringing them on! Xxx

Also, as well as Marshall & Chris Brunt, we also brought on Chris Eagles very successfully. Come on, John Bostock, show us (and Yeovil) what you can do!! We have a great tradition of bringing on teenagers going back to Jimmy McCalliog & Tommy Craig, both record teenage purchases.

Also, apart from ben Marshall & Chris Brunt, not forgetting Chris Eagles, now of Premiership Bolton Wanderers. Show us what you can do, John!!

Fascinating what a high % of comments on here are from Blunts. We've clearly got them worried. Bostock knows he's come to a massive Club; we previously brought on Ben Marshall & before him Premiership quality Chris Brunt. John Bostock now has every incentive to take advantage of this golden opportunity the Owls have given him.

Blades match off. Dingles playing away. Stocksbridge Park Steels match liable to be postponed. Looks like I may have to stroll down to watch you lot tomorra. Having only seen you once this season, at The Lane, what particular facets of your game should I be waiting to be impressed by? Don't all shout at once..... BTW Yeovil are atrocious. I expect to see a proper spanking....

Cough cough, back to the football then. The Championship looks full of teams battling for the top spots with only 7 points separating their top 6 teams. While we have 19 points between top & sixth place, which would take you down to 16th in the Championship! Teams in the top 6 of the 1st division should therefore knuckle down a bit & give Charlton a few good hidings. That ten point gap they have now is beginning to look ominous. Ah well come on Wednesday, come out with all guns blazing tomorrow & give Yeovil a good spanking. UTFO!
