OXFORD United could offer former Sheffield United defender Johannes Ertl the opportunity to resurrect his career in England.
The Star understands that the League Two club, managed by ex-Bramall Lane full-back Chris Wilder, have identified Ertl as a possible target ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.
Ertl, a high-profile victim of the cull which followed United’s defeat in last season’s League One play-off final, has spoken publicly about his desire to remain in this country despite receiving several approaches from abroad.
Meanwhile, United’s preparations for the big kick off began in earnest with the first of several gruelling training sessions on Malta.
United are scheduled to play two friendlies against domestic opposition.
Danny Wilson’s squad will face Zejtun Corinthians at Ta’Qali traning compex tonight before locking horns with Maltese Premier League outfit Hibernians in Paola on Wednesday.
