Watch this space for tribute sculpture to two Blades legends
It's still under wraps - and will remain so for a few days yet - but the newest addition to Sheffield United's frontage which arrived yesterday will pay lasting homage to two club legends.
A sculpture has been especially commissioned depicting Derek Dooley and Joe Shaw, two well-loved figures forever enshrined in the club's history and who made a lasting impression - one off the field and the other on it.
Derek, of course, crossed the city from Wednesday and over a period of 30 years - having arrived at the Lane as Commercial Manager in 1974 - was a key part of the club hierarchy.
He was, in turn, Managing Director, Chief Executive and later chairman before finally stepping down in 2006 with, for a variety of reasons, everyone acknowledging the importance of his influence at the club.
Joe, a cultured centre half regarded as the best defender never to be capped by England, holds United's appearances record of 632 League games out of a monumental figure of 713 senior games.
The statue is to be unveiled on Friday ahead of a dinner in memory of the duo.
