The goalkeeper moved to South Yorkshire from Cardiff City last month and, after keeping his first clean sheet during last weekend’s victory over Peterborough, has impressed since replacing George Long between the posts.

Wilder, who described signing Moore as a “fantastic piece of business”, said: “Simon has brought a real presence. Vocally, he’s always organising and brings a real calmness to the team. Although, by and large, he’s not had a great deal to do, when he’s been called upon, he’s made some great saves when we’ve needed him and that’s another mark of a good ‘keeper.

“That’s exactly what we ask. When you have to produce, you do what you’ve got to do.”

Although Moore’s transfer fee was officially undisclosed, The Star understands he cost United an initial £250,000 with further performance related add-ons, including promotion, potentially payable. Wilder swooped for the 26-year-old after Long made a chequered start to the new season. With the former Steelphalt Academy graduate subsequently confirming he wanted to explore his options before the recent transfer deadline, fellow Steelphalt Academy graduate Aaron Ramsdale has since emerged as Moore’s main understudy.

“We identified Simon and he wanted to come here so we got the deal done,” Wilder said. “He’s played his games, got his experience and shown a real desire to come here and play for us. So, hopefully, he can go on to become a real success. Just like all the players here.”
