Unstoppable Evans leads United’s promotion push
Reda Johnson
IS there a better striker in League One right now than Ched Evans?
Yet again, the Welsh international proved to be Sheffield United’s matchwinner at the B2net Stadium. He repeatedly stretched Chesterfield’s back four and deservedly took his tally to five goals in as many starts with a sublime solo goal.
Full of confidence following his goalscoring spree, Evans never shirked an opportunity to shoot and he was unlucky not to score more.
Craig Davies partners Evans up front. He was in the right place at the right time to tap in Barnsley’s second goal at Elland Road. El-Hadji Diouf also gets the nod in my three-man attack.
It is impossible to leave out Sheffield Wednesday duo Jose Semedo and Ben Marshall from midfield. Portguese ace Semedo, who moved to Hillsborough on a free-transfer last summer, looks like being one of the bargains of the season. The central midfielder has been consistency personified while Marshall gives the Owls’ attack a new dimension in the final third.
I’m not surprised Wolves, Stoke and Everton are reportedly interested in Reds midfield maestro Jacob Butterfield. The 21-year-old was influential throughout at Leeds and had a hand in both goals. The vultures are circling around Butterfield and manager Keith Hill will do well to hang on to his star man come January.
Matt Lowton shone at right-back for the Blades and on the left I’ve picked Jon Harley. He impressed both in attack and defence for Rotherham United.
Reda Johnson was Sheffield Wednesday’s star performer while Simon Ford was a rock at the back for Chesterfield. For the second week running, Carl Ikeme is the Team of the Week goalkeeper.
