Underdogs look for twin upset

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are expected to progress to the third round of the FA Cup as they welcome Aldershot Town as Victor Chandler’s 1/2 favourites.

Aldershot, struggling in League Two, are cup underdog at 13/2 (Stan James) while a draw, 10/3 at Ladbrokes, is probably their best hope.

Owls fans should be looking to win by at least two goals, chalked up at 5/4 with Skybet, while the optimistic might fancy a bit of a drubbing and back Wednesday to win by three or more (3/1, Sportingbet). Paddy Power pay 11/10 for Wednesday to have the lead at half-time and then hold it.

Should The Shots manage to keep the Owls to a stalemate it could be via a goalless affair, priced up at 14/1 with bet365, but Wednesday will be looking at delivering a 2-0 (6/1, Partybets) or 3-0 win (9/1, Boylesports).

Sheffield United also have League Two opposition in the form of Torquay United and Betdaq rate them as 1.53 (8/15) favourites. Torquay, 6/1 with Totesport, represent a trickier package than Aldershot but The Blades should have too much and will ideally avoid a draw (3/1, Ladbrokes).

It may take a while for the breakthrough so backing a deadlock at the break could be wise, available at 6/4 with Betfred, while more exact punters might like the idea of Victor Chandler’s 13/5 on a 0-0 half-time score. Betdaq offer 4.5 (7/2) on United going onto win from a drawn first period. Barnsley are a whopping 14/5 courtesy of Stan James to extract victory away at Peterborough and build on last week’s win at Leeds while Posh are at even money (Totesport) to win. Bet365 have 2/1 on Barnsley in the ‘draw no bet’ market, a price to be considered.

It’s bottom versus top at the Keepmoat and Doncaster are Boylesports’ 4/1 outsiders to beat Southampton. Incredibly, The Saints have won just one of their previous seven league away games, slightly belying Paddy Power’s 8/11 tag on them, so The Dons are capable of getting a point in this testing fixture (13/5, Totesport).

Back in the Cup, Rotherham have a difficult trip to Shrewsbury. Andy Scott will be hoping for some Cup magic as The Millers are 3/1 (Partybets) to beat a Shrews side, 10/11 with Skybet, unbeaten at home since March.
