SHEFFIELD United moved back over Wednesday into second spot after smashing five past lowly Rochdale.
United had fallen behind after only three minutes when Kennedy opened the scoring for Dale, but Kevin McDonald levelled matters two minutes later.
The prolific Ched Evans edged the Blades ahead on 22 minutes and the impressive Lee Williamson made it a two goal lead on 25 minutes after a pass from Evans.
Williamson nearly bagged another one five minutes before the break, but missed from close range.
However, it wasn’t long before United added to their lead with Evans drilling home in first half injury time.
Leading 4-1 Blades boss Danny Wilson replaced Williamson with Ryan Flynn at the interval.
And United hardly missed a beat with Michael Doyle making it five on 57 minutes.
Rochdale had some reward for their earlier good play when they pulled one back through Temitope Obadeyi following good work by captain Gary Jones.
Evans was denied a hat-trick when he was replaced by loanee Michael O’Halloran on 69 minutes.
But it didn’t affect the overall outcome as United claimed another three-points in their quest for automatic promotion.
