Top two shoot-out ‘will go to final game’
THE League One promotion race will go to the final match of the season.
That is the verdict of Neill Collins as Sheffield United seek to end a run of two successive defeats in all competitions when they travel to Colchester United this Saturday.
First-team regular Collins said: “It is going to go down to the wire.
“I think we have to win 13 of our last 19 games. If we do that, I think we will probably get promotion.
“It doesn’t matter who we beat on the way. It is just about getting those wins under our belt.
“I can see it coming down to the last game of the season. I have no doubt about that. Hopefully we will be in a position where we are in control of our own destiny.”
The Scottish centre-back, who is still searching for his first United goal, is adamant they can catch run-away leaders Charlton Athletic. The Addicks are 11 points clear of fourth-placed United following their midweek draw with Bury. However, Danny Wilson’s men boast a game in hand on all of the top three.
“I don’t understand people who say it [the title] is done and dusted,” said Collins. “Charlton have been the best team in the division so far but football is a funny game. Things can turnaround quickly.”
Ex-United boss Neil Warnock is the early favourite to replace Simon Grayson as Leeds United manager. Sky Bet have Warnock odds on at 8/11 to land the Elland Road post.
