Nigel Clough has broken his silence surrounding his departure from Sheffield United in the summer and Blades fans have been making their opinions known.

Clough, who has been linked with a return to management at Chesterfield and his old club Burton should Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink leave the Pirelli Stadium for another role, said of his Bramall Lane exit: "That wasn't the case in either of the clubs we were at [Derby and Sheffield United], that's what makes it disappointing. It certainly wasn't the case at Sheffield because we went from third from bottom to seventh, fifth and two semi-finals. So if that's failure, good luck to everybody else."

Here is a selection of views from United fans:

@Skinner1889 - still paying the price for his obsession with collecting slow, mediocre, ex Derby dross.

@Ball_Slack505 - Good luck to anyone trying to hold together the club you wrecked

@smiffy2609 - Gone from fifth to mid table obscurity, with a few new additions. Having said that, the footy did get boring under NC.

@Andyyysw - @TheStarBlades we were more exciting under Clough, we played with passion and never knew when a game was up.

@Mat_Man_Miracle - dull tactics(tick) dross players(tick) promotion fail (big tick)....NEXT!

@Robinovlocksley - All credit for him for waiting so long to break his silence. Obviously ready now for a new challenge elsewhere.

@pauljhnst - doesn't mention spending around £3m and still couldn't get us anywhere near promotion

@1JonDavies1988 - Gone backwards since he left #sufc

@Andyyysw - we had moments of magic last season. We played on the counter, that's not dull, it's a tactics. We were dangerous.

@1JonDavies1988 - finished 5th in a better league last year . Only Murphy come out from that.
