IF YOU listened to Sheffield United fans, you would think the scrap for the second automatic promotion spot was all over.

It is all doom and gloom at Bramall Lane following the 1-1 draw with in-form Tranmere Rovers.

Lucas Akins header cancelled out Ched Evans’ first half opener. With Sheffield Wednesday claiming a 2-1 win at Notts County, the Blades are above their city rivals only on goal difference - and nine points off leaders Charlton.

Silverblade posted on thestar.co.uk: “More twists and turns to come. Going to the wire for sure. We need to cut out sloppy mistakes in defence and we will be alright, but to be honest Wednesday have to be favourites now.

“It’s a case of who can hold their nerve and clinch that second spot.”

“Trouble is they are all raising their game against us and we are getting sloppy; we have to raise our game or else it’s good night Vienna,” he warned.

Mancblade feels United have sorely missed Kevin McDonald. The influential midfielder has been out on the sidelines for a lengthy period with a hamstring problem.

“We’ve not been as fluent since Mcdonald got injured,” he said. “The sooner he returns, the better.”

A discouraged DexterMorgan said: “Keep telling you, its going down to the last match of the season and Huddersfield aren’t out of it yet either. Very laboured today and not sure that Will Hoskins is really a midfield player. Bring Ryan Flynn back in. Matthew Lowton and Chris Porter had quiet games and Matt Hill spent the afternoon doing Gary Naysmith impressions.”

On the blue side of the city, UTO1 has saluted the job Dave Jones has done since succeeding Gary Megson.

“The difference for us now with Dave Jones in charge is that he changes things to get at teams and we’re closing teams down better,” he said. “Take yesterday: we couldn’t get past them in the first half. He got the lads playing behind them and we scored two in the second half instead of just huffing and puffing to see what happens.

“I liked Gary Megson and was disappointed with the way Milan Mandaric got rid of him, but Dave Jones brings something completely different to the table.”

OneDavidHirst added: “Absolutely fantastic result. A massive well done to the lads. A bit mystified why our fans seem to think it’s all over though.”
