MOMENTUM is a big thing in football and Sheffield United have it in abundance going into the Christmas period.

Own goals from Bournemouth defenders Adam Barrett and Steven Cook saw Danny Wilson’s men climb up to third in League One and the Blades supporters can barely contain their delight.

Silverblade posted on thestar.co.uk: “Excellent result against a side that had just been on a six match unbeaten run, and Charlton seem to be in a bit of a flap at the moment only drawing at home to Oldham. Solid performance today and we are hitting top form at the right time.

“Ched [Evans] on fire; hope we can hold onto him in January. The future looks bright if we can.

“Come on Blades; the league is there to be taken.”

R&w wizards added: “Good win. Keeps us ticking away with two home games to come.”

By contrast, Sheffield Wednesday let slip a two-goal advantage to draw 4-4 with Huddersfield Town. Despite dropping two points at Hillsborough, the Owls faithful remain upbeat over their hopes of going up.

PaulSheffield said: “Stunning game for entertainment and the spirit and the resolve of the team to come back from 2-0 down was amazing to watch.

“If we keep this up, there is no doubt we will get promoted. However if we don’t it matters not. I never thought I would see a team play with heart and passion again at S6 after the last 10 years of shame but Milan Mandaric and Gary Megson have turned us back into the team I followed in my 20s. With a crowd like that, Milan will see that if he invests he will a get a massive return on his investment.”

Lincolnowl said: “A great game. Pity we didn’t hold out another 30 seconds. Slow start; it was no surprise when the first goal went in. The second was a really well worked goal; good cross and a rocket header. Then the Owls put there game together and fought back and began to gain the upper hand. Great goal by Ben Marshall and it looked as though they had it in the bag but failed to hold on to the ball.

“Excitement throughout the game. Second half of the season will be totally different with all the outstanding players being sought after by clubs in the Championship and Premier League. Hopefully we keep a settled side and have no long lay off with snow. Promotion will be secured by wisdom and courage.”
