SHEFFIELD United will redouble their efforts to get Jamie Murphy fit for Friday’s League One encounter at Tranmere Rovers.

Danny Wilson’s side are set for a hectic finish to the season after last weekend’s home game with fellow promotion contenders Brentford was postponed.

Murphy, the former Motherwell winger, had been a major doubt to feature against the visitors from Griffin Park due to injury.

Although United will not welcome being forced to reschedule yet another match - recent meetings with Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra have also fallen victim to the weather - events 48 hours ago have raised Murphy’s hopes of taking part in all of their games between now and the end of the campaign.

Wilson said: “Jamie has felt his hamstring, which everyone knows about. But he also might have a little problem with his back. He’ll be getting the treatment he needs and hopefully he’ll be okay soon. It goes without saying that we’d like him to be available.”

Wilson, speaking before the Saturday’s contest was postponed, added: “Jamie hasn’t trained but that doesn’t bother me. It’s at the stage when, in terms of the player’s fitness, it’s not so much of a problem because we tend to just keep them ticking over.”
