Modou Sougou is closing in on a move to Sheffield Wednesday after being released by Olympique de Marseille today.
The 30-year-old, who spent last term on loan at Evian, had a year left to run of his contract at French giants Marseille.
But Sougou has been shown the door, having been deemed surplus to requirements at the Stade Velodrome.
It is understood the Senegalese international has held talks with Wednesday's hierarchy over the last 48 hours and is reportedly set to pen a two-year contract.
Sougou started his senior career in Portugal with Uniao Leiria, making his debut against giants Benfica, before enjoying spells at Vitoria and Academica. The winger, who can be utilised up front, moved to Romanian side CFR Cluj in 2011, where he was a teammate of Wednesday striker Sergiu Bus.
His impressive performances earned him a big-money switch to Marseille. But Sougou struggled to hold down a regular starting spot, featuring just 20 times.
He has spent the last two years on loan at Evian.
